"Horse Age Restriction : 3-year-olds"
Does that mean that the tournament is limited to 3-year-olds ONLY, or can a younger (2-year-old) horse be entered with the older horses?
Jim
I'm not altogether sure, but I like a challenge so I will try. The aging process is basically this, three (3) tournaments age your horse one (1) year; If you vet your horse, it is equivalent to one (1) tournament; quit tournaments also count towards the process.
Now, If you have a two (2) year old who is not running well at two (2), and you notice that his peak age is three (3) lets say. Instead of wasting stable and tournament fees, running him in races that he will not do well, you want to get him running where he has a chance right away. So you decide to forgo his two (2) year old campaign and take him straight to three (3) or whatever his peak age is.
By deciding to forgo his two (2) year old campaign to race at a higher age, the rationale is that you no longer want to race him at two (2). It wouldn't make sense to allow players to go back and forth between ages. Once you're 3, you can't be 2; once you're 4 you can't be 3; but if you're 2 and want to be 4 - that's okay!
I just reread the second part of your question and a light bulb went off. I have been trying to figure out how one of my horses Robusto aged to be 3 after only 2 tournaments and no vets. He was in a tournament that didn't fill and canceled. I'm not a 100% sure, maybe 95% sure that's what happen. I shot a email to support last week, maybe they are working on it. No big deal on my end, I just stuck him in a 3 year old race and kept it move'n.
Thank you Ronwar. What you said makes sense for someone who wants to forego his horse's 2-year-old season & get right to the 3-year-old season.
But that was not the case with my horse. I mistakenly entered her in a tournament for 3-year-olds thinking that 2-year-olds could also compete there. After all her name was on the entry list. Now I have lost my horse's entire 2-year-old season & the tournament is very likely to be cancelled for lack of entries.
That does not sound right to me! If the tournament is limited to 3-year-olds then 2-year-olds should not be allowed to enter.
There was no pop-up warning or anything else to alert me to the consequences of entering my horse there.
THIS IS NOT A GOOD RULE!
Jim
I wouldn't sweat it too much. My guess is your horse will be better at 3 and his peak age is somewhere between 3.5 and 4.5
If you haven't purchased the performance report a good way to determine the peak age is...(now just keep this between me and you)...set up a race in your game at peak age, that will tell exactly what age he will do his best work.
Once there are more tournaments and tournaments for all ages, I think the key will be to really maximize your horse during those peak times.
Ronwar, thank you for your encouragement! You are making yourself a good mentor for the game.
My problem with this is that my horse is a MONSTER even at age 2 & now I have lost the opportunity to compete in three 2-year-old tournaments where I had a good shot at winning some points.
Right now I am so mad I can hardly see straight & unfortunately your encouraging words are falling on deaf ears. But thanks for your efforts.
Jim
In my opinion Jim, a canceled tournament is not a tournament at all. Once it is canceled for lack of entries, it should be like it did not exist. Your points are refunded and your horse should return to its status before the canceled tournament. If this is not the case, then IMHO its wrong!
Like I said, that's just my opinion. That and $3.50 will get you a Latte.
I had the same problem, i withdrew a 2yo from a tournament and entered another and he aged to 3 yo right away cause it was a 3yo tournament, i emailed support and this is the reply i got and i hope it helps to clear some things up cause it was very helpful to me.
The tournament that he withdrew from will still count toward his aging process (as explained in the Trainer Game & Trainer Game Tournament "Get Help" section). And, even though he has aged to a 3-year-old, he can still participate in the 2-year-old tournament(s) he may be entered in. Aging him just qualifies him now for entry into the 3-year-old tournaments, as well. Also, if you obtained a vet visit for this horse, that also will count toward his aging.
You pulling your horse out (quitting a tournament) is different from the tournament canceling on you. In one you have control, in the other you do not.
This is actually a very good thread and we've had several meetings on this and here's what's happening and why. Normally when you enter a tournament where the age is the same - for example, your horse is a 2-year-old and you enter a 2-year-old tournament - then the tournament does not fill and is canceled, you will automatically be given your entry fees back and the horse is eligible for another tournament right away. This is simple and fair, but there are two scenarios that make it a little more difficult. The first is when your horse is 2, but has no more 2-year-old tournament options (he's now been in 3 tournaments), so the next tournament you enter him in, he will be 3. In this particular case, you will NOT be able to enter him in a 3-year-old tournament until that last 2-year-old tournament has at least started. Because, if that third 2-year-old tournament cancels, technically, you should be able to enter your horse in another 2-year-old tournament and that would be the case except, planning ahead, you entered your horse in a 3-year-old tournament. So, once again, if you are signed up for a 2-year-old tournament and it's your last eligible one and your next tournament will be for a 3-year-old, you will not be able to enter that 3-year-old tournament until that 2-year-old tournament is confirmed as started. This solves some of the current problems we are having.
But, here is the third situation. Your horse is a 2-year-old, he has another 2-year-old tournament he can enter, but the player decides to skip tournaments (for whatever reason, maybe because the horse will be a better 3-year-old or even 4-year-old) - in that case, if you enter a 4-year-old tournament and that tournament is canceled (again, all entry fees returned - that part is easy), but because of the way the programming works, we will not be able to take your horse back in age. So, when a player commits to skip a year or part of a year or even more than a year, that commitment is not reversible even if the tournament is canceled. It is a technical reason, but when you look at it, it shouldn't matter anyway. If you're skipping a year or so and doing it to find the right level of performance for your horse - it shouldn't matter if it's a current tournament that gets canceled or another tournament at the same age as long as the other conditions are similar.
Again, if you skip your horse's 3-year-old year to enter a 4-year-old tournament and that tournament is canceled, he is still a 4-year-old, but your entry points are refunded and his next tournament will still count as his first tournament in his 4-year-old year. So, we're not taking anything additional away that the player wasn't already intentionally doing.
In my comments on this thread I wrote that I did not intend or want to skip my horse's 2-year-old season. I also wrote that there was no pop-up alert that this would happen. THAT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED & it should not be difficult to program that in.
You wrote..."So, we're not taking anything additional away that the player wasn't already intentionally doing." In my case you are taking away my horse's three 2-year-old tournaments & I most definitely did NOT INTEND to skip her 2-year-old season & lose those tournaments.

discussing the original post by DUSTYLA2--but as i was writing it..i noticed that it had been answered the way i would have--and that he had the same prob as me--then..as you have read--i asked for lil' bit of help on two other topics--one involving which horse file to get--the 70's horses..came up--and it went on from there--granted this topic was a completely different thread. gee--'sorry about that gang~~. However; Really-no--really!!~ I seriously was going to put it on another thread--i had pondered about that,earlier--even while i was writing the last post i put on here,BATA~~but, you are right about this-So for those who are interested--i'll be posting a separate thread about what transpired during my lil' tournament..lol...THANK YOU.
BTW--I RECEIVED WORD BACK FROM SUPPORT-twice-that the EURO files--AND(!!)--SECRETARIAT--AND RIVA~~are definitely in the works,as of now!!Development stage.~ Also, that they should be ready possibly anywhere between--2 weeks and a month from now.;-):) sooo--just thought i'd lay that on you people. Interesting, huh??
