Please read the "Game and Community Info" link to the right of the right of this webpage, that should get you started.
But to get points for your races you jockey or bet you have to racing in community mode. To do click the "switch player" button located at the top of the screen in the Game Setup screen. Select the button until "Community Member" appears on the top of the screen. I highly recommend you become a VIP member and you can earn 5000 pts per day versus non members, plus many other great perks.
