What happened Curlin did not win the Man O war stakes race yesterday. So what !
The champion race horse is the current king of horse racing but even a king has faults, no? . Let's get real the horse race had 3 breeders cup winners in it and Curlin was the only one without a turf victory ,let me restate that, the only race horse with out a turf start . Yes horses can go right out and win a horse race on the turf but this was no ordinary horse race . This was built with a field of champion turf race horses. Winning in the game of horse racing is tuff enough but expecting to go out and win against top turf race horses first time out well that my friends is very tough and is why I was shocked at the odds that Curlin went off at .

Even when you play our free horse racing game and you move the best race horses to different surfaces you will find that they perform way different .
Dirt to turf racing is tough for any horse who has only known one type of horse racing surface. One of the things that makes our horse game so much fun is trying to figure out what the best racing surface and racing distance is for the real and virtual horses in our game. When I run Curlin on the turf in some virtual horse races I see he is still one very tuff race horse but he is beatable and maybe that is the way it was suppose to be . I mean if you give a great pitcher in baseball a bat do we expect him to hit a home run ?

I like what the jockey had to say after today's race "He didn't grab me
like he normally does," Albarado said. "It wasn't an awful horse race. He was up against a couple of top Breeders' Cup winners. His acceleration was a little different. He felt great physically. He wasn't stressed or tired when I pulled him up. I'd like to see him get another chance, another shot on the turf. It's like a first race for him, a new chapter. He's got tons of talent and maybe that's what got him second today. He felt comfortable, but to say that he loves it ... Maybe next time will be his show-up race." Yes maybe, but also maybe not . This is why we love this great sport of horse racing ,there are always questions to ask on any day about any horse.

That may be the case next time for Curlin or it may not . I mean finishing second to one of the best turf race horses in the world is not a bad thing is it?

The big difference between turf horses and dirt race horses is turf horses have better acceleration . The way turf races are run are different and we all should of known that going into this horse race today . When I play our virtual racing game I can see the difference in top turf horses and top dirt horses. We need to remember this when building races with turf horses and dirt race horses. Race horses are pretty smart and they get use to certain things . For the last few years Curlin has been running is races on the dirt and that is that. The great thing about horse racing is all the pieces of the puzzle that have to be figured out ,just like our horse racing game .

Curlin might come back on the turf and say ok,I know what I have to do now and explode to win or he just may be so programmed with the type of running style that he has been taught since the beginning of his horse racing career he might even take a step backwards.

Now there are questions for everyone . Will they try this champion race horse again on the turf? If they do will he step forward or not? Can this hurt his racing skills on the dirt? Do we need to make adjustments in our horse game program on Curlin's ability on the turf?

If you own the horse race file containing Curlin try him out on the different racing surfaces you might be surprised by what you find . What I found was that this great race horse was not the greatest when racing on the turf. This is horse racing anyone can say anything after the fact ,but it was true . In our horse racing game the turf slowed him down for sure against other great race horses.
