Turn Your Trip to Kentucky Into A Great Vacation

If you’ve scheduled a trip to Lexington, Kentucky this summer so that you can attend the World Equestrian Games … congratulations. You’ve made a great decision. You will be able to attend this special event – one that only takes place every four years – with lovers of equestrian sports from every corner of the globe.

It’s going to seem to you like it is an Olympic event, not just a coming together of equestrian sports lovers, because there will be people in attendance speaking languages you’ve never heard -- a true major international “happening.”

And while you will have an opportunity to spend much of your time attending any – or many – of the eight disciplines (or tests), you may also have time to experience Kentucky away from the equestrian games. That would be an unexpected, but worthwhile, benefit.

Kentucky, “the Bluegrass State” is famous for its thoroughbred horse racing industry, a critically important industry and a major contributor to the state’s economy. If you really like horses, you’ll be able to visit some of the magnificent farms where great thoroughbreds are born, raised and bred … and where retired champions of the racetrack, horses like the legendary Kelso, for example, live out the remainder of their lives in comfortable retirement.

If time permits, you’ll be able to “tour” the beautiful countryside, perhaps in a rented car (or your own car if you’ve driven to the games from your home), stop in small towns for a leisurely lunch, perhaps some antique shopping or souvenir hunting … or you can venture into the city of Lexington for dinner at a world-class restaurant … enjoy superb shopping opportunities … sightseeing … and much, much more.

The fact is Kentucky is rural and urban … and urbane and sophisticated, as well. In short, it is everything you want it to be and then it is something more. The state is, of course, in the southern United States. Life is slower here … more relaxed ... nicer … and the people reflect all of those traits – they are remarkably friendly.

So … come to the World Equestrian Games. Attend the events … enjoy the competition … and the magnificent horses and their skilled riders … savor every moment. But … then take a little time to explore Kentucky and get to know the wonderful people and places that make this, the Bluegrass State, so special.
