Virtual Horse Racing Game Updates – 7/30/12

Today we got a lot accomplished. First, the issue for entering tournament races has been resolved. It appears to have affected only certain browsers, but we figured out what the problem was and that issue should no longer occur.

The recent winner block is currently updating again.

The Recently Ended Jockey and Betting Tournaments is now functioning. In addition, all the jockey and betting tournaments from the last three days have been updated, players received their points, their badges, everything. This issue is closed.

Searching for upcoming trainer tournaments has been i whether you’re using it for individual horses from your Stable page or whether you’re utilizing it from the navigation under Tournaments and Races, in both cases not only are the results coming back faster, they are coming back significantly more consistently. We will continue to work on this to further enhance speed (bringing back the selected tournaments faster), but we’ll do that once we get through all the rest of the critical issues. The site speed is significantly faster. We will continue to work on programs and modifications so there will be some fluctuation (up and down), but generally we’re moving in the right direction and I’m sure everyone has noticed. I’m hoping that by the end of this week, we’ll have more stability and still faster page load. But, it’s definitely dramatically improved from three to four days ago.

The following issues were brought to our attention. One was the changing of performance reports. This only affects horses that were born prior to the migration whose original performance report was sent via private message and additional performance reports are being requested through the Stable page. Certain factors in the performance reports are different. Though the technical explanation is complex, the answer is simple. Your original performance report is providing you the valid information on your horse. The secondary report that is coming up on the Stable page is not correct. Again, this only affects horses born prior to the migration. Somehow during the migration, certain tables related to the performance report specifically for a group of these horses was changed. With this said, this has absolutely no affect on the horse stats. In other words, when you breed a horse, the statistics for the horse are kept on a separate server. That server is never seen by the users. That server with all the horse statistical data (including courage traits and consistency traits ) has not been touched. So, if you feel you’re getting a performance change out of your horse, that is totally related to a change that would have occurred as part of that horse’s life cycle.

We cannot do anything about this performance report issue. It will have to work its way out of the system. Again, the original performance report you received is the one you need to work with, for at least these particular horses.

Another issue that was brought to our attention was birth speed rating changes. What is happening here only affects horses that you originally breed and have sent to the desktop client, update in the desktop client so his birth speed rating shows there, then decide before you ever race the horse to retire him so you can use the name again. Then, you breed a new horse with the same name, have him delivered to your desktop client extension and also your web Stable page. What you’ll see here is the birth speed rating will change for your horse on the Stable page on the website, but the birth speed rating will not change in the client because we never built a function to do that. It will require an update to the client in order to allow that to occur. So, to resolve this issue short-term, we are prohibiting the same name from being used again for newly-bred horses. The mid-term fix will be if you breed a horse, send him to your web page first (Stable page online), you don’t like what you see there, retire him and then utilize the same name again – before the stats are sent to the desktop client extension. Once again, for those players who have done this, the birth speed rating of the horse identified on the web Stable page is the correct one.

Tomorrow we plan on conquering quite a few other tasks, specifically one that is occurring rarely but is occurring – trainer tournaments are being canceled even though they have enough entries. We think this is a simple fix.

If everything goes well tomorrow, then Wednesday we will start development of the second stable page that doesn’t have any of the Unity elements and lines up all your horses in a single list with some cool features to manage their tournaments and their associated races.

Question

Is there a way to access original reports?

Good Question

That's a good question and I will ask the tech team. I'll know by tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest. If there's a way, we'll figure out how to let players access it.

Nice to be heading in the right direction. Keep up the good work.

When are the emails informing us of tournament starts and on our stable page going to be reintroduced?

I had all my old performance

I had all my old performance reports saved in a separate private message folder, but unfortunately the folder seems to have disappeared with the new update.

Old performance reports

Modgraphix and everybody else: you can retrieve the old reports in the Old Private messages section. It's the "Click here" link in the green banner above your PM's.

Unfortunately, I don't see a search ability there, so you'll have to slog through ALL those old messages to find your old reports. What I did is add the old reports as an entry in my blog; you get 30 pts for each entry and won't have to regenerate the report each month. For those trainers with large stables, you may want to be more creative or hope the following suggestion is implemented.

Puddles and the tech team: if, as you stated, this can't be fixed properly, maybe you can add a search function for the players to access their old reports more easily.

Modgraphix and everybody else

You can retrieve old reports through old private messages (of course if you actually saved them) for those who didn't save them in a message need to have the ability to access them.

Mod

I didn't save any of mine and they are all there - of course I have a tiny stable but all the old reports are there - no saving ever done.

Old verse new performance reports

I was under the false assumption, that since the old performance reports weren't there anymore, the new one with all the stars was a replacement and what we were to use.
I wish some of this stuff was explained during the long wait for the release of new version. I recently entered about ten of my horses, using this new report as a guide.
Personally, I don't have the time to search for old performance reports. Oh, I could do it once in a while, but I don't like the idea of this being the only way. Thank you, Rick for your suggestions. Much appreciated. Hope an easier solution is around the corner. LOL

a suggestion for after the dust settles

here's a suggestion that would help save us all some time. when clicking on horse in stable, then available tournaments for this horse, it would help listing the track where the final will be run along with the other conditions so we don't have to go back to stable after each listed tournament.
