Racing Game Update & New Feature Update 9-14-12

As we continue to improve the site speed, the majority of the development team has moved to the project tasks I discussed last week. Over the next 2 to 3 weeks, I expect the initial tasks to be complete. This includes adding new tournaments, Blue’s and Green’s (sloppy and soft turf), navigation improvements, and better search functions on the site. In fact, we launched the first new feature today which was giving players to access their private messages without going to their Profile Page.

We’ll start back on the chat program next week as well and feel confident we’ll be able to implement that during the next 2-week time period. All said, there will be some 15 to 20 modifications, enhancements and new features released over the next 2-3 weeks.

Sometime in early-mid October, we’ll be releasing our Yellow Restricted Tournaments. These tournaments are one-race evens that run instantly. In other words, theoretically, a player will be able to take a horse through his entire racing career in a single day. This feature is for players who are looking for constant action with their lower to mid quality horses. It will be possible to run your horse as many as 8 races over the course of a couple of hours.

Yellow Tournaments will also have a betting component where horses will have fixed odds and you, the owner, will be given the opportunity to bet on your horse only. Initially, we’ll offer win bets, but eventually will offer exacta bets as well. Though the Yellow Tournaments are open for everyone, it really works best for the players utilizing the Unity viewer and did not install our download client where they can evaluate their horses in more detail. Understand, Yellow Tournament races will play in both the Unity player and the desktop client.

I think Yellow Tournaments will become an exciting feature for players looking for quick action, and not necessarily deep evaluation. It’s also a great stepping stone towards the more detailed tournament structure we have.

The Yellow Tournaments are optional, horses will age just like they do when running in other tournaments. The only difference is, Yellow Tournaments are set to specific times and will run with full fields, consisting of non-player horses. The entry fees for Yellow Tournaments will be low, 1,000 game points, with no race fees. Again, the concept of the Yellow Tournaments is fast-turning action while either learning the game (new players) or killing some time for the more established players.

Diversification and broader game scope under the right presentation allows us to attract a wider variety of players and, hopefully, a portion of those players funnel up and become part of the core player base.

Have a great weekend.
Thanks,
Mike

Yellow Tours

Yellow tours sound good. So what about stable fees for the horse that you run its career in one day? No stable fees I guess. I guess the pool horses will have a place here at HRF now other than just prelims.

Yellow Tourneys.....I like

Yellow Tourneys.....I like the concept but it sounds like we have to un-install the download client to get the maximum benefit. If so, how do you train your horses?

it really works best for the players utilizing the Unity viewer and did not install our download client where they can evaluate their horses in more detail.

Green and Blue Tourneys

I would hope that your adding all track conditions with the BLUE and GREEN Tourneys,,,,,,,In your HELP section you even say DON'T be impatient if there isn't a race that suits your horse ,,,,,,,,,,BE PATIENT and sooner or later a tourney will come up ,,,,,,,,,WELL with some of my horses I've been waiting for more that FOUR WEEKS for a tourney,,,,,,and still NOTHING has been posted,,,,,,but yet you still collect stable fees for the month ,,,,,,we evaluate our horses and WAIT and WAIT and WAIT and WAIT for a tourny to enter himm in while you keep taking stable fees ,,,,,,,So I hope your add all track conditions when this is over

Thanks

Blues and Greens

Although i am all for the new surfaces for green and blue tournaments i do feel that some of the greens (especially the 110) take away horses from blue tournaments(like the 112). Right now it takes about 2 months for a blue 112 sand or turf race to even fill and even then there are minimal horses in those tournaments. If new surfaces are added i think the greens should (do i dare say) be killed off. keep the 103 make it blue 103, and kill the 110 and 117 greens. i think that killing off the greens and adding the new surfaces will balance everything out, keeping 110s and 117s with the new surfaces will only thin out the amount of horses in tournamnets

weird

for some reason , its only like this on firefox, on chrome it works fine?

dustyrider's picture

Oh, vikinggod28, no. Thou shalt not kill.

Please, Sir Mike, do not kill the 110 and 117 greens.
Please don't kill off anything.
In my humble opinion, changes should never lean to fewer available choices, but for additional possibilities for players and their horses. I, for one, look forward enthusiastically to these new additions you've mentioned.
This fine game keeps getting better and better.

dustyrider

Now there is someone with a great attitude for this fine game!!! We need more dustyriders here at HRF. I sure hope they are going to have green 117s slop.

@Puddles

Please fix the horse naming issue.

Most of us enjoy coming up with unique names for our horses. If you can't fix the issue then there should be an option to change the name after it's bred just like changing the sex and color.

I'm currently naming all of my horses Wasted Name XX. I'm up to Wasted Name 125. This is starting to get old and should be addressed.

Thank you

Love the yellow addition, I have a question however

When you say:

"Yellow Tournaments will also have a betting component where horses will have fixed odds and you, the owner, will be given the opportunity to bet on your horse only. Initially, we’ll offer win bets, but eventually will offer exacta bets as well.

Is this different that challenge buddy? Will we be wagering our game points and we can only bet if our horse is in the race? I get why we cant bet against our horses, however can we wager if we have no entries in the race?

New surfaces & conditions

Please Oh Please may we have at least Blue Tournaments with the Synthetic Surface. I am sure that I am not the only trainer with some horses that run best on Synthetic. I love the new sloppy dirt and soft turf that are coming, Add Synthetic and heavy dirt and I will be totally content. I am of two minds about the Yellow Tournaments and will have to wait and try them to see if they really add value.

soundofrum's picture

My 2 cents

Use all surfaces in blues, or whatever color. Same as Generals. Include more tracks. Not just from America. Use those 5 furlong tracks as well. Let's open this game up.

WHAT GOOD IS IT ?????????

We are all asked to purchase horse,,,,,,,yep keep on purchasing horse,,,,,,the more the better,,,,,,,just keep purchasing horse,,,,,,,,,,fill those stables ,,,just keep purchasing horses,,,,,,,the more the merry,,,,,,,spend all your money ,,,,,all you can afford,,,,,,,but just keep purchasing horses,,,,,,if you could buy them two at a time they would sell them that way,,,,,,,,,,,but what I don't understand,,,,,is after you purchase all those horses,,,,,,and spend hours and hours evaluating them to see what are the best conditions to race them on,.,,,,,,,,is it SLOP,,,,MUD,,,,,,HEAVY,,,,SLOW,,,,,,GOOD,,,,,,SOFT TURF,,,,,YIELDING,,,,GOOD TURF,,,,,SLOW,,,,,,,So now that you've evaluated your horse or horses after takeing hours to do so,,,,,,,,WE ARE TOLD,,,,,,,,,those tournaments are NOT available ,,,,for some ignorant excuse such as,,,,,,,WE CAN'T FILL THEM AND END UP CANCELLING THEM,,,,,,then what is the purpose of evaluating your horse when he sits in your stable most of the time,,,,,,,,I think the advantage is for HRF to collect 8,500 of your points each month in hoping you will not only purchase more horses so that they can collect more from you but to also purchase POINTS to stay afloat in the game,,,,,,,,,come one people WAKE UP!!!!!!!,,,,,,this isn't fair by any means and its not right ,,,,,,,,THINK ABOUT IT

PLEASE DONT GET ME WRONG I LOVE PLAYING THIS GAME,,,,,BUT NOT WHEN I'M BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF ,,,,,,,,,,,I DON'T THINK ANY OF US WERE BORN YESTERDAY ,,,,,WE WEREN'T BRED LIKE A HORSE

danoboy's picture

conditions

HRF ,,,,,,,,,,lets make all track conditions and distances available to each and every horse that has been purchased,,,,,NOT just FAST DIRT RACES and FIRM TURF RACES,,,,,,,,,Oh yeah they are available in the GENERAL TOURNEYS,,,,,,,why not the RED,,,,,GREEN and BLUE ,,,,,

Heres the thing..........

Heres the thing...........everyone wants more surfaces to run on but at the same time tournaments are being cancelled left and right (by the way 3 more of my Blue 112 tournaments cancelled again this week). if people are upset at cancelled tournaments right now can you imagine with the new surfaces? I love the idea of new surfaces for blues but i do think something else has to change to "balance out" the "thinning out" of horses to these new surfaces...........

racodo's picture

Your exactly right Viking.

Your exactly right Viking. They need to go to just four BSR ratings.

90-100
101-110
111-120
121-129

If they keep the BSR restrictions as is, it will be to spread out, and cause more cancelations than they have now.

5..........

Taking into consideration the new surfaces and the new yellow tournaments coming out i think a good number to start with is 5 (100BSR, 105BSR, 110BSR, 115 BSR, etc..) for each tournament. That way horses are not overly overmatched and it just might be a big enough spread to actually have tournaments run and not have so many cancellations..
Its kind of like driving with 4 bad tires and one of them blows out, yeah you can replace the one and still drive but if you want balance you have to change the other 3 along with the first one.........

mosesismine's picture

I agree completely with

vikinggod28.
I find it hard to find a race for my lower 115 BSR horse in tournies. He runs around a 105 in most of his races- lower level horse. He prefers long distances- OVER 9F. The closest Tournaments i can find are in the Green Blue and Red Tournaments BSR 116 or 117 or lower ( for the RED Tournies all surface 110) with NO RACE longer than 9 Furlongs. Im not complaining about losing. It is what it is.
BUT..............

I would LOVE to have RACE CLASS and CONDITIONS ACTUALLY FIT my horse.
I realize that breeding is an important part of the game and you don't know what kind of horse you are going to get.
BUT, once you HAVE that HORSE wouldn't it be an even playing field if, for example, all the BSR 100 or lower horses raced against each other, the BSR 115 raced against each other etc...?? Have the Class and Conditions more realistic for the level of horses in the game? The horses can still improve their BSR's.

The Class ladder worKs something like this:
in real horse racing horses have to climb he Class ladder and meet conditions in order to race in Graded Stakes races, like the Kentucky Derby. First is Maiden races, then Maiden Special Weight- for trainers that don't want to lose their horse and think it has potential. Then there is Claiming races- where another trainer can claim another person's horse- like here in the game. Allowance ( for horses that have won ) races, Non -winners of 2-3-4 races in a lifetime, Handicap Races, and then ( the Holy Grail of horse racing) GRADED STAKES races! The entry fees in the game should be low for the lower BSR horses andd, if they improve by racing the fees should be adjusted accordingly.

I think BOTH new and more experienced players would enjoy a format like this. It teaches everyone how horse racing and horse training actual works at the REAL race tracks. The new players and more experienced players in this game wll gain knowledge of what thoroughbred horse racing is all about. From the ground up.

So ,,,now i have a question

In this POST you said"Blue’s and Green’s (sloppy and soft turf)" All i have seen so far are sloppy and yielding turf. So did the Soft Turf morph into yielding turf or are you adding soft turf too?
Just wondered, I may have missed the Sf Turf....hmmmm
