We have implemented a change in our breeding guidelines. Trainers will no longer be able to breed a horse, retire it and then utilize the same name. This practice was causing the conflicting birth speed ratings that were recently seen by certain players who bred a horse initially, sent the horse to their desktop client extension, immediately retired the horse and then used the same name for a new breeding.
When we upgrade the desktop client, we will be able to make some modifications in the client that will allow us to avoid this issue in the future. At that time, this ability will hopefully be reinstated.

I believe once a horse is retired, it name should be null from the game, is not like if you are visiting the Vet for the horse. That's the best way for our game.

Had no clue that you could use the same name after retiring a horse before, I agree if the horse gets retired so should the name.

PUDDLES I HAVE A SUGGESTION, SOUNDS LIKE A SIMPLE SOLUTION DON'T KNOW IF IT IS. NAME HORSES AFTER WE FIND OUT THE BSR, SO EVERYONE IS OK WITH NAME GIVING TO HORSES KEPT. WE WASTE A LOT OF GOOD NAMES ON HORSES RETIRED. JUST MY IDEA.
I agree with duss860. If it's possible, it would be so much easier/better to name a horse once you know the gender and color. Sometimes a chosen name doesn't fit the gender or a more suited name could of have been given based on the horse's color. Along with, of course, whether the newly bred horse will be raced or retired.
I love that idea as well. Naming horses is hard enough. Sometimes you come up with a great name and it goes down the drain on an awful horse. I didn't mind that before after I realized that it could be reused if you retired the horse before it raced. After all, IRL, a horse doesn't need to be officially named unless or until it's going to race. In fact, the name can be changed before it races the first time. Seems logical we should be able to do that here too.
The game keep records of each bsr bred and the name that goes with it. Thats how it auto updates the weekly and daily breeding board. Breeding a high bsr and then you take your time to name it will add more complication to the board unless hrf finds it simple to adjust with that.
This has been discussed many times in the past. When the training portion of game just started out and even afterwards,
I'm in total agreement. Great idea. I can't see this as even being a problem for HRF folks. Why do we have to waste so many good names? That's what we're doing now.
can you please explain why phar lap cant be bred?. i believe the greatest horse evr considered he was weighed down with sand and stone every race but still won everything. will he ever be available on hrm to breed?
i just thought of this after new horse is bred. we could use the horses training tool to name horse. no different than changing color or gender. in the stable will say your new horse have been delivered please choose desired name for horse. i am thinking too much
I did not know you could reuse names in this game. The Correct answer is the one Puddles just made. The Jockey Club does NOT allow reuse of names(Could you just see 50 Man O War's running around.) It' s like me or you buying a real yearling and naming her Eight Belles. That won't do either. That is why all racehorses have lip tattoos. Makes sense to me.
Thats not how it works mysong you wouldnt even be able to have 2 man o wars as the name already exists. what people are doing is coming up with their own original name and when the horse is foaled and has a low bsr they are retiring the horse instantly and using that name to breed a new horse. so no one can use a historic or exixting name and no one gains advantage except the game with horses with great names. i see no issue with it .
not make myself clearer. that was just an example . The Jockey Club rule states you may not reuse names.... or names that will be construed as (meaning near) a already used name. That is why you must submit 3 possible names and the Jockey Club picks the name if it has not been used. If you submit 3 they don't like they will disapprove them all, then you will have to submit 3more. Most real Thoroughbreds are named when they are 2, some at 3 if they are going to be Broodmares.
And to answer your question say i bred a horse lets call it Surgar, the name was accepted. Then i found out the horse couldn't run fast enough to keep itself warm in winter, I retire it. It really doesn't matter the BSR. Then down the road you named a horse Surgar , your BSR is 140+ , but your performance report is really crappy. Would you Be happy? Not me , but that is just me. Good Luck.
