The NTRA is in the process of conducting it's 11th annual online vote for it's NTRA Moment of the Year for the 2009 racing season. For those interested in voting, you get to vote for one out of 14 images from 2009, each of which represent a great moment. If you happen to vote for the winner, you get entered into a random drawing, and upon winning that you will get a trip, along with a friend, to the Eclipse Awards in Beverly Hills. Go to www.ntra.com for more details.
What I am more interested in are getting our community's thoughts on just what that moment of the year actually is. Here are the 14 possibles, listed in chronological order:
1. Well Armed, with Aaron Gryder up, wins the Dubai World Cup
2. I Want Revenge and Joe Talamo score an improbable win by overcoming a flat-footed start to win the Wood Memorial
3. Rachel Alexandra wins the Kentucky Oaks by over 20 lengths, a new stakes record for margin of victory
4. Mine That Bird comes from dead last on the final turn with Calvin Borel up to win the Kentucky Derby at 50-1 odds
5. Rachel Alexandra becomes first filly in over 80 years to win the Preakness
6. Precious Passion sets record when she wins the United Nations
7. Rachel Alexandra beats the boys in the Haskell
8. Gio Ponti wins the Grade I Arlington Million on the turf
9. Rachel Alexandra beats older males in the Woodward
10. Linda Rice first female to win training honors at Saratoga
11. Summer Bird wins the Jockey Club Gold Cup
12. Goldikova repeats in the Breeders' Cup Mile
13. Conduit nips Precious Passion at the wire to repeat in the Breeders' Cup Turf
14. Zenyatta, in final career start, defeats the males in the Breeders' Cup Classic to become the first female horse in history to win that race.
Well, just a quick glance at that list of moments and we can see that Rachel Alexandra will probably have the inside track to Horse of the Year; appearing on that list 4 times is mighty impressive, don't you think? Anyway, I think the last item on the list, Zenyatta's big win in the Classic, is the one that I'd vote for. A female had never won that race, it was her final start of brilliant career, and she provided racing fans everywhere with a moment as exciting as any I've seen in the past 20 years. We won't see that great mare race again, but she sure went out with a bang!

Conduit and Presious Passion
I am well aware that Zenyatta will win this poll but my favorite moment was the Breeders Cup Turf. Presious Passion is just so much fun to watch. By the way Zenyatta is last on my list.
Zenyatta
I'm still shaking from , Zenyatta's, exciting, come from behind victory in the Breeders Cup Classic. She beat the best of the boys that day and retires undefeated. Can't beat that.
*barrelqueen* I agree

I agree definatly zenyatta is fast and keeps her pace
Moment of the Decade!!!!
Zenyatta winning the BC Classic I believe was the moment of the decade. She appeared to be beaten at the top of the lane, and then HERE SHE WAS, flying to end a perfect career. I vote ZENYATTA - HORSE OF THE YEAR. But then, nobody asked me.
