It’s that time of the year and summer racing is kicking in. For the true racing enthusiasts, with big smiles on their faces, we start off another wonderful summer racing season at both Del Mar in Southern California and Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York. What makes this year a little different is that these two meets are going to face a little competition from the big show being put on out at Monmouth Park on the Jersey Shore. The New Jersey Racing Association has spent some big money dishing out some very big purses with a million dollars a day guaranteed to the owners of the winning horses during this spectacular spring/summer meet.

Each one of these venues has their own unique aspect. Of course, the things they all share are warm sunny days and top horses battling it out for first place honors.

Summer racing brings us some of the best stake events there are. Yes, I know about the Kentucky Derby and the Breeders’ Cup Classic , but it’s a lot of those summer races spread out over a ten-week period that just gives you constant excitement and great betting opportunities week after week - everything from the Travers Stakes to the Pacific Classic, the United Nations and so many other amazing races that kick in every Saturday and Sunday right through Labor Day weekend.

What is really cool about horse racing during the summer is that it tends to bring out the more casual fan for that get-away or family day in the sun watching beautiful horses perform in their colorful silks. They could be picnicking in the infield or taking photographs of the horses while being saddled in the paddock. At the end of that day, each family walks away with great memories and, if they got lucky, a few extra bucks in their pockets. Yes, this is the height of racing season, with the exception of the five weeks when the Triple Crown takes place. While there isn’t any particular day that draws a massive crowd or gathers mainstream recognition, what you fill find are consistent crowds, top racing events, exciting photo finishes, and a lifetime of thrilling memories.

Yes, it’s that time of year again. Get your sunglasses ready, put your sun screen on and go to your favorite track and enjoy the wonderful racing.
