I've ridden horses in two consecutive Breeders' Cups and for any jockey, that's a great opportunity. But I have to tell you, I am so excited about the 2009 Kentucky Derby. My name is Joe Talamo and I am a community member here at Horse Racing Fantasy, but am also the jockey of the 2009's Kentucky Derby favorite, I Want Revenge. It's a long way between now and this year's Derby, that first Saturday in May, but I thought what a great opportunity to talk to my fellow community members about how I'm living this incredible journey and preparing for the Run for the Roses.
Racing horses has been my dream and now my dream has come true. I cannot believe it. Not only am I heading to Kentucky for that first race in the Triple Crown series, but I'm actually on one of the favorites. I Want Revenge deserves to be one of the favorites. This amazing animal never seemed super-comfortable when racing over the synthetic surfaces. But I could tell the moment when he put his foot on the track warming up at Aqueduct that a different horse was going to show up. His effort in the Wood Memorial was incredible. The first thing that runs through my mind every morning is that we're one day closer to this year's Derby and I'm one day closer to sitting on this incredible throughbred, waiting for those gates to burst open with the sound of that bell and the roar of the crowd.
Share my journey to the Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes. I look forward to letting everyone here know what I'm feeling and thinking all through the next two months. I don't want to get too excited. This is horse racing. I Want Revenge is already in Kentucky and doing great. I look forward to joining the horse in a few weeks and getting him across that finish line first to win the Derby. I'll be posting as often as I can to keep the community informed about this incredible journey.
