The Preakness

What can you say about this race? Big Brown dominated an extremely weak field. The only horse with any chance at challenging him, Kentucky Bear, had an absolute nightmare trip. Big Brown was impressive again, but is no lock in the Belmont. With the recent news of his quarter crack and the plethora of new shooters in the there, he can be beaten if he's slightly off his game.

Casino Drive, Denis of Cork, Tale of Ekati and Tomcito all have a shot to win this race and deny Big Brown's Triple Crown bid.

Met Mile

Commentator broke on top, went too fast early and managed to hang on for second in this one. He never seems to run a big race when he needs to. Divine Park had a perfect closing trip and capitalized on the strong early pace. I'm not expecting any horses from this race to do too much later in the year. The final time was really slow and the final quarter mile was even worse. They were all staggering late.

The Shoemaker Mile

Daytona rolled to a nice win in here over a questionable field. Ever a Friend is a solid miler, but Daytona has really been in great form all year. The question is, can he hold this kind of form all year? He might be able to because he has pretty nice spacing between his races. He also has the advantage of the Breeders' Cup being right in his backyard. He showed his dangerous tactical speed in here and that's what really impressed me. He's not a one-dimensional speedball. This wasn't the strongest field, but Daytona was certainly impressive and can be considered a top contender for the BC Mile.
