One of the great things about books in general is that they serve to document history for those of who were unable to witness it ourselves. In the world of horse racing, one of the most extensive and moving collections of the sport’s history from the 1930s to the 1960s is the book “Horse Racing: The Golden Age of the Track.”

The book centers around the photographic work of Bert Morgan, a freelancer who captured some of horse racing’s most important moments. His photographs were displayed in Vogue, Vanity Fair, and many other national magazines. Much of the focus of the book is placed on Morgan’s work at the Triple Crown races. Throughout his career, Morgan captured incredible shots of some of the greatest racehorses in history, including Count Fleet, Whirlaway, and the magnificent Man o’ War. The book features over 150 rare photographs that are difficult to find anywhere else, including shots of notable horses, races, and horse racing jockeys. Not only does Morgan capture some incredible horse races on film, he also succeeds in showing the glamour of horse racing’s “golden era.” From Bing Crosby to Liz Taylor at the Turf Club, Morgan gives the reader a front row seat into the world of horse racing as it was during that time.

The book also features an intriguing introduction by author and horse racing fan Bill Barich. With its behind the scenes look at some of the most thrilling moments in racing, “Horse Racing: The Golden Age of the Track” is a must have for any horse racing fan’s bookshelf. And if you don’t have the book, you can still relive history every day, thanks to our free online horse racing game. Love it!

Funny enough, I actually own that book! It definitely has some amazing pictures in it...ones that I hadn't seen anywhere else. It's also cool that the book documents so many important Triple Crown races. There's definitely nothing like the golden era of horse racing and this book captures it perfectly.
