The Kentucky Derby and Dr. Fager: Could Dr. Fager have won the Kentucky Derby? We definitely think so!

Today I make my case for Dr. Fager in the Kentucky Derby. One of the things about Dr. Fager that's clear just from scanning his past performance chart was that he was a superstar thoroughbred, definitely one of the greatest that ever stepped out on a track. Because he raced so long ago, there are many current racing fans who don't know that much about him. When they look at the black and white record that his career chart provides, it's plain to see that he won 18 races, with 2 seconds and 1 third in just 22 career starts, and the one time he officially finished fourth was in a race that he came under the wire by nearly 7 lengths, but was disqualified. With a horse that talented, a young horse racing fan might ask: why the heck did that great horse not run in any of the Triple Crown races? If not the Preakness Stakes or the Belmont, then why not at least the Kentucky Derby? Well, Dr. Fager's flamboyant trainer John Nerud was a different guy, there's just no denying that. Nobody would ever dare call him a traditional trainer. Because of that, he wasn't all that bothered by the aura of the Triple Crown races when Dr. Fager, the greatest horse he ever trained, was eligible to compete. Instead he focused his horse's attention on shorter distance races in that spring season, races like the mile-long Withers and Gotham stakes, and then the 9 furlong Jersey Derby. Nerud had figured out early that Dr. Fager would not be able to go a mile and a half, so deduced it pointless to point his colt toward the Triple Crown. Fager did race at a mile and a quarter and a mile and 3/16th's later in his career, but Nerud never did enter his horse in a race farther than a mile and a quarter. As a horse racing fan myself, I understand why Nerud wouldn't care to run his great champion in a mile and a half race. As such, it would be silly to run him in the Preakness since it was only two weeks after the Kentucky Derby, but that still leaves the Kentucky Derby. I believe that Nerud should have tried to run him in the Kentucky Derby. Dr. Fager surely could have won the Run for the Roses, and he could've followed the lead of Swaps, who in 1955 won the Kentucky Derby impressively but then didn't run in either the Preakness or the Belmont.

But you sure can! Dr. Fager is one of the greatest horses that ever set foot on a track, and since our name is Horse Racing Fantasy, it's a natural fit to engage your fantasy by adding Dr. Fager to your stable and then running him in the Kentucky Derbys. If you're anything like me you probably think that the great Dr. would be able to take the Kentucky Derby. He wasn't good beyond ten furlongs, and since you wouldn't actually run him the Belmont because of that, it would be pointless to run him in the Preakness Stakes, even though he could certainly handle the mile and three-sixteenths running distance. But the Belmont just wouldn't make sense since a mile and a half was definitely not his best distance. However, Dr. Fager did clock a stellar sub-2:00 times at 10 furlongs twice in his career, which tells me that Dr. Fager could have won the Kentucky Derby if he was given the chance! Add Dr. Fager NOW and run him in The Kentucky Derby or any of the Triple Crown races, races we offer right here at Horse Racing Fantasy, where variables like track condition, size of the field, and other things are completely up to you!
