More of 1988: The Best Racing Year Ever. Well, at least one of them, anyway!

If you have read my last two entries (click here and here if you want to catch up), you know that I've been on a 1988 kick these days. Why? The answer is simple: I love horse racing, and in 1988 there was some seriously entertaining horses to watch. Lots of great competition, lots of quality horses, both fillies and colts. Just to transport your mind back to 1988, I'll give you a bit of a sample of some more things that were big in 1988:

You had The Cosby Show,

Dan Quayle the butt of national jokes,

for you movie buffs out there, Beetlejuice,

and of course, thoroughbred racing! There was a lot of history in 1988. You had the filly Winning Colors winning both the Santa Anita and the Kentucky Derby, the only time in history a filly has won both races. You had the son of Secretariat, Risen Star, winning the Belmont by a huge margin, just like his famous father. You had Alysheba's amazing performance in the Classic, when he had to come from far back to win on an off track to secure Horse of the Year. You may find yourself wondering: Why did Alysheba have to win the Classic to win Horse of the Year? The answer is because of the super-filly Personal Ensign. Coming into the Distaff, she had won all 12 races she had ever run, including crushing the boys in the Whitney. Some speculated that her trainer would enter her in the Classic to run against the boys, but he felt that she had already proven she could rise to that challenge, so instead she was entered into the Distaff, where she had a formidable adversary in Winning Colors. Personal Ensign had to contend not only with Winning Colors, but also with a muddy track, which she never liked. But the great ones can rise to the occasion when they must, and the 1988 Distaff turned into a battle between two of the best fillies of all-time!

These two amazing fillies are both ready for you to ride them in thrilling races just like this! Simply visit our Horse Racing Store and you can try and ride Winning Colors again in this race to see if you can change history and hold off Personal Ensign. Or you can try Personal Ensign, a filly that never raced in the Triple Crown series, out in that storied series and attempt a sweep, something no filly has ever done in reality.
