The Chantal blog has arrived!

The Chantal blog has arrived!

I know what you’re asking yourself right now: is this blog just going to be about what it’s like to be a woman in a male-dominated sport, and how I rose above the “glass ceiling” of racing to really make a name for myself? Well, yes and no.

I will share some funny, frustrating, unforgettable stories with you about my life in racing so far. But what I’m really psyched about is the chance to talk about the in’s and out’s of racing – and how knowing more about the details of the sport can help you win more…and amaze and delight your friends with your knowledge.

I hope you'll post your comments here often -- I'm going to do everything I can to keep in touch with everyone in this awesome, growing community.

About Chantal Sutherland

Chantal Sutherland is the total package. With tremendous riding ability, intelligence, beauty and grace, she embodies everything that is right about the tradition-rich sport of horse racing. Born and raised in Manitoba, Canada, Chantal began riding at a very young age. Not intimidated for an instant by the potential boundaries of her gender or location, Chantal developed into a champion in the chilly northern continent, winning Canada’s highest jockey honor for an apprentice, The Sovereign Award, twice.

Today, Chantal racks up wins in warmer climates, but continues to represent her sport without peer, and provide a living, breathing, winning role model for other young women who want to pursue their dreams of riding in high-profile stakes races.

I am thrilled to be able to

I am thrilled to be able to talk to a female jockey. How many female jockeys in America are there right now? And what is your locker room like compared to the men's locker room? Is it much smaller or what? Do all the men give you total respect or do some of them try to intimidate you? Do you have to exercise your upper body alot so you can control the horses the same way the men do? I can't wait to read your answers!

Chantal, what track are you currently working at? Is Also do you have to ride your mounts differently for each track condition?

Chantal,

I watched you ride and bet on your mounts during the past Santa Anita meet; your fantastic!! Can't wait to see you up on some more mounts at Del Mar or the Oak Tree meet in Oct. Your ability is outstanding and your judgement of pace and come from behind runners is right up there with the Best!

You "GO" girl!! and keep those guys straight and running true!!

Good Luck and Good Racing!

Neat!

I'm so excited to read all of your blogs and everything! I too, want to be a jockey. I've emailed many male jockeys but I think it'd be really cool to talk to a female jockey. So, I can't wait to hear from you in you blogs and maybe I'll send you a message!!

Thanks,

Kayla
