Free Flying Soul, Proviso, and Evita Argentina headline the Grade 1 Santa Monica Handicap at Santa Anita. Free Flying Soul finished third in the Breeder's Cup Filly and Mare Sprint and most recently won the non-graded Kalookan Queen Handicap at Santa Anita. Proviso didn't really fire in the Breeders Cup Ladies Classic though she did steady in that race and won the Grade 1 Spinster prior to that, so she should be taken seriously here. Evita Argentina's last four wins have come at 7 furlong distance and is coming off a victory in the Grade 1 La Brea. Diamondrella is a two time Grade 1 winner on the turf at a mile. Gabby's Golden Gal was made the favorite in the La Brea but faded late. It will be interesting to see if she can fire and outfinish La Brea winner Evita Argentina. Sweet August Moon won the G3 Las Flores at 6 1/2 furlongs last spring at Hollywood Park and prior to a long layoff she had won three straight. Gilded Gem is 2/2 and undefeated, but is coming off an Allowance and is leaping right into Grade 1 territory - a tall order for her. Cherryblossommiss, Captains Lover, and Made for Magic round out the field.

Racing these ladies to figure out which one might be the rightful occupant of the winner's circle should be great fun for our VIPs. This is a strong field and there are no shoe-ins here.
