There are no real standouts among the ten starters for the $150,000 Sham Stakes at Santa Anita Saturday. The Program did finish a close 4th in the G1 Cash Call Futurity last December, but has been barely getting by in Allowance company since then. Kettle River is coming off an almost 2 month layoff. Nextdoorneighbor won a maiden race in impressive fashion, winning by 4 lengths over Viva Macho who is also entered today. Alphie's Bet finished second in the Cal Breeders Juvenile Championship to Caracortado, who won the Robert B. Lewis Stakes. Wolf Tail comes out of that race also, having finished about 3 lengths behind Alphies Bet. Setsuko is 3-1 on the morning line despite having only won a maiden race, but he does get Rafael Bejarano, one of the leading jockeys in the nation. Garret Gomez pilots Outlaw Man who has been racing primarily on the turf with decent success. Straightomidnight, Viva Macho and El Mirage King complete the lineup.
