A field of ten will contest the $400,000 Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakesat seven furlongs on the Belmont Park undercard. Hierro is the G3 Derby Trial winner and took a big step forward in that race. His chances certainly improve if it is a wet track. Il Vilano is coming off the best race of his life in the 100K Chick Lang at Pimlico which he won by 4 3/4 lengths going away. If he can take a similar step forward he will be tough. Bourbon Courage finished almost 4 lengths behind Hierro in the Derby Trial but may have been compromised by the slop - he has been outstanding in two races over dirt winning by 4 1/4 and 6 3/4 lengths in his last two dirt starts. Trinniberg is back at a more suitable distance after having tried the Kentucky Derby. He is the Swale and Bay Shore winner by open lengths and looks like one of the top ones to beat here. Hardened Wildcat got within three of Trinniberg in the Bay Shore but just couldn't get to him - he'll have to take a step forward. Brian, Power World, Isn't He Clever, Currency Swap, and Laurie's Rocket complete the lineup.
