Fort Larned and Ron the Greek head a contentious nine-horse field for the $750,000 Whitney Invitational at Saratoga Race Course. Fort Larned's two graded stakes wins this year were strong enough to win this race but were at the Grade 3 level and he will have to show if he has the class to win here. His only attempt at Grade 1 company was in the Stephen Foster, but finished up the track. That race was won by fellow entrant Ron the Greek, who also won the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap earlier this year. Flat Out is hoping to regain the form that made him the favorite for last year's Breeder's Cup Classic but put in a solid second to Rule in the Grade 2 Monmouth Cup last out. Trickmeister will be on the lead or forwardly placed and led in the Suburban last out before fading and being out-finished by Hymn Book who got second in that race. Hymn Book won the Grade 1 Donn earlier this year. Hunters Bay, Caixa Electronica, and Endorsement will be longshots.
