The Mentor Program is a fun and exciting way to get more engaged in our game and community and, at the same time, increase your chances of being more successful.  For the students considering signing up for the Mentor Program, this is a great opportunity to fast-track your learning curve in our game and community while earning free community points.  Signing up for the Mentor Program as a student will not only give you the winning edge, but it will give you the opportunity to learn some of the best-kept secrets in the game almost immediately.  Successful students can also become mentors themselves, providing even further rewards by successfully guiding new students through the learning curves of our game and community. For those who want to sign up as a mentor, scroll to the bottom and read all about the advantages of helping others learn our game, including how you can earn community game points.

Being a Student – What’s It All About & Why Should I Do It?

Don’t think of this like school.  Think of being a student as a great opportunity to quickly get yourself up-to-speed in our game and community.  Students who take advantage of the Mentor Program find themselves enjoying the game faster because they have a greater understanding and much more in-depth knowledge of the game and community.  Students also receive bonus points ( 20,000 community points) when they successfully complete the Mentor Program.  Because your mentor receives bonus rewards based on your successful game play after the completion of your course, you can be assured that your mentor will be providing you all the knowledge necessary to put you on the fast track to success in our game.  The moment you sign up and are accepted by a mentor, you will receive 5,000 bonus community points.

Becoming A Student – To become a student is easy.  Simply click on the Mentor Student Signup link on the community home page.  Choose the topics of the game that you want to learn more about, provide a general schedule of availability and submit to be matched with a mentor.  Our computer program, based on the answers to the questions provided will automatically match you up with a mentor best suited for your needs.  Students can also find their own mentors by either searching the forums and looking for players identified as mentors and private messaging them to start a communication or from your Student Profile page, simply click on the Active Mentor List tab and review all the available mentors.  Each mentor has a profile and talks about their areas of expertise, the days and times of the week they’re available.  You’ll also be able to see a list of a mentor’s current students, past students and the student ratings given to the mentor.  This information can be very powerful when choosing a mentor.  You have the ability to interact with the mentor’s current student by private messaging him as well as reading the reviews that past students have given this potential mentor. 

Whether you go with the recommended mentors through our automatic matching program or you selected a mentor on your own or you go with a mentor who approached you is your decision.  Once you decide on the mentor you want to work with, simply click on the Request Mentor link and that mentor will be invited to add and accept you as a new student.  The mentor you request has 24 hours to accept or deny your request.  Don’t be discouraged if a mentor denies your request.  More times than not, it’s simply because of a busy schedule or they currently have too many students.  If the mentor does not reply within 24 hours, your request is canceled and you are eligible to request another mentor.  A student can only have one mentor request out at a time.  Once a mentor accepts you as a student, both of you are committed to the program and the course begins. If a student is not active in the game for three days (has not run any races that have been recorded on our server), a mentor has the right to send out a 'last chance to communicate' special email to the student. If after 48 hours from the time that email is sent, the student is still not active in the game, the mentor can dismiss the student from the mentor program. If this is done, that student is not eligible to become a student of any other mentor. 

Time For School – Now that you’ve been matched up with a mentor, what do you do?  The first thing you do is send a private message to the mentor and invite himself to an online chat.  The online chat feature can be accessed from your student profile.  Introduce yourself and set up a schedule that is convenient for both of you.  Remember, the schedule you put down on your profile is just a preliminary indication of your availability.  Get yourself up-to-speed as much as you can before you start working with your mentor.  Visit our Get Help section in the community and review the areas where you interests are.  By having a general overview of a particular topic, you will be able to absorb much faster all the additional information the mentor will provide.  It’s in both your interest and the mentor’s interest that you become successful.  Both the student and the mentor are compensated at the end of the program based on their ratings of each other and the student’s success in the game as a result of the Mentor Program. 

There are no tests.  This is an absolute fun experience.  Take advantage of this one-on-one time with your mentor to really get yourself engaged in the fun and exciting game.  Our game requires skill and our mentors can provide a lot of powerful information and inside tips on what to do and what not to do when playing the game. 

Setting up a schedule is always the best way to communicate with your mentor, but don’t be afraid to look for your mentor online if you have some urgent questions and need some quick advice.  The student and mentor are tied together through a special notification system letting each other know when the other is online and when a chat message has been sent.

We do not recommend communicating by phone nor do we recommend giving out any personal information.  Remember, our mentors do not work for the company.  They are game players just like you.  The difference is that they have had great experience in understanding the game and are willing to pass that knowledge off to other players.  If you are having a problem with a mentor and you feel you are not getting the information you need, look for members in the community wearing an Industry Pro badge.  These members can help you with any issues or concerns you have with a mentor.   

Whether you signed up for a 2-week or a 4-week course, you will be notified when the program ends.  At the end of the program, you will be asked to rate your mentor.  In order for you to be eligible for your 20,000 bonus community points for successfully completing the program, you must rate your mentor.  From the final notification, you have 7 days to enter a rating on your mentor.  Whether you give a favorable or non-favorable rating, as long as the mentor provides you with a successful rating, you will receive your bonus points. 

What Happens When the Mentor Program Ends?  We know the Mentor Program is a very quick course and goes very fast.  We also know our game is very in-depth. Once the Mentor Program ends, you still have the ability to interact with your mentor for an additional 45 days in group chats.  If you see him online, you can request to chat.  Or, you can ask the mentor if you can participate in a group chat to refresh some of the things he taught you.  It is in your mentor’s best interests to make sure he has helped you to the best of his ability.  Your mentor will receive bonuses from the company based on your actions and successful game play for 45 days after your Mentor Program course has ended.  When you first sign up for the Mentor Program and you’ve been accepted as a Student, you will receive a Student badge.  When you have successfully completed the Mentor Program and been given a positive rating by your mentor, you will receive a special Graduation badge.

What Happens If My Mentor Gives Me a Poor Rating?  If you receive a poor rating from your mentor, you will not be eligible for your bonus community points nor your Graduation badge.  Students who receive a poor rating from their mentors are not eligible to participate a second time in the Mentor Program.  

Students Becoming Mentors – Mentors are designated by Industry Pros.  Industry Pros make the final evaluation on who can become a mentor.  Players who have successfully completed the Mentor Program are more favorably looked upon than those who haven’t.  Though there are no specific guidelines to becoming a mentor, Industry Pros usually look at several factors.  How long has a person been active in the gaming community, how successful have they been, did they graduate as a student from the Mentor Program and, of course, the mentor application.  If you apply to be a mentor and are turned down.  Don’t worry – keep playing and apply again after  30 days.

Being a Mentor – What’s It All About?

For the serious, more skilled players looking to take advantage of their game and community expertise, the Mentor Program is your perfect vehicle.  Not only will you obtain the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping other players, but you will earn bonus community points for each successful student that completes your Mentor Program and does well in the game. 

The Mentor Program is totally controlled by the community.  The company has no say on who can become a mentor.  Mentors are chosen by a very select group of players in our community who wear the gold Industry Pro badge.  So, let’s walk through the process.

You want to become a mentor and you feel you are eligible and have a strong knowledge of the game and community.  Simply click on the Mentor Signup form found on our community home page from the navigation menu.  There you will be asked to fill out a simple form identifying what you believe are your areas of expertise in our game and community.  You will also be asked to select what days of the week you are available and a general time range to work with potential students through our special student/mentor chat program.  Though some mentors share personal information like phone numbers and emails, we strongly suggest that you limit your communication with your students to the chat module we provide.  Before you can even apply to become a mentor, you must meet the following criteria: A minimum membership of 4 months to our game and community; you must have run at least 500 races in community mode (the type of races does not matter); you must have purchased at least 5 trainer game horses. Until these qualifications are met, the option to become a mentor is not even displayed to you. Once all these requirements are met, a tab on the right navigation of the community will appear, giving you the option to apply to be a mentor. Once you submit your application to become a mentor, our industry pros will be notified.  The industry pros will review your application, your current game play history and then make a decision of whether to accept or deny your mentor application.  Industry pros have 72 hours from the time of submittal in which to accept or deny an application.  If you are denied, you can apply again after  30 days.  If you are approved for the Mentor Program, you will be notified by  private message.  At that time, you will receive a Mentor badge.  Once approved, you are then able to take on new students.  Your mentor profile will be in our database for automatic student-mentor matching and will also be available for all new registered students to view manually and override the automatic matching process.  After 10 students have completed your Mentor Program successfully and provided you with a good rating, you will receive a special Mentor badge recognizing you as a Mentor Gold.

I’m a mentor and I want students  Once approved as a mentor, it’s time to get some students.  You can take the passive approach and wait for new students to fill out applications and be automatically matched by our student-mentor matching program, or you can aggressively work the forums in the community by focusing on the new players who have just recently signed up and are feeling their way around the game and the community.  We call this ‘fishing’.  This type of self-marketing benefits you, the mentor, and the community overall.  Most new players are overwhelmed by all the features we offer.  Signing up with a mentor early on is a great way for a new player to be brought up-to-speed very quickly without feeling overwhelmed.  When ‘fishing’, simply look for players who are relatively new (you can check their player profile to see how new they are to our game and community), have not run a lot of races or may not even have their first trainer horse yet.  When you have identified a potential new student, review his game profile and then send him a private message letting him know about the Mentor Program.  Let this potential student know that he would be rewarded for signing up for the Mentor Program and that you can significantly help to bring him/her up to speed so they can begin winning community points from tournament game play.  Guide the potential student to the Student Signup form and let them know when they’ve completed the form to specifically select you as their mentor.  At that point, you will receive a Mentor Request through a private message.  The mentor has 24 hours in which to accept the student request before it is automatically canceled.  Simply log into your mentor profile page and then approve the student.  At that point, you can immediately begin communicating through the mentor/student chat feature. 

Teaching your student – It’s important to bring students up-to-speed on the overall game and then focus on what areas they are most interested in.  You can find this information by reviewing their profile and, of course, just chatting with them.  Deal with one topic at a time so you do not overwhelm the student.  Try to set a schedule with the student and then keep it.  Whenever your student is online, you’ll be notified through a special messaging system.  In addition, if your student has sent you any recent chat messages or wishes to start chatting with you, you will receive another alert.  It’s important that you support your students all the way through the program and provide as much information as you can.  At the end of the Mentor Program, your student will grade you.  If that student feels that you did not provide adequate information or were not available when agreed upon, your student may rate you unfavorably.  By doing so, you would not be eligible for the bonus community point program.

Bonus Community Points for Mentor – After your student has completed his course, either the 2-week or 4-week program, and your student has rated you successfully and you have rated your student (your rating of the student does not affect your bonus), you are then eligible to start receiving bonus community points on your student’s transactions and successful game play.

a.       On any direct point purchases that your student makes for the next 45 days, you will receive a bonus of 15% credited to your account.  If your student purchases 1 million points, you will receive a 150,000 community point bonus. Point purchases made through the Free Points tab utilizing our third-party payment processors such as Super Rewards or Peanut Labs are not subject to the bonus program. Only point purchases made through our Shop are eligible for the 15% mentor override bonuses.

b.      On any tournaments where you student wins community points – jockey, bettor or trainer – during the same 45-day period, you will receive a 10% bonus on any points earned by your student.  So, if your student wins 1 million points in a trainer tournament, your account will automatically be credited 100,000 community points.

c.      If your student, during that 45-day period, purchases a VIP membership and stays at least one additional month, at the start of that second month, your account will be credited with 99,500 community points.  (Motivate those students to become VIPs and make sure they know all the VIP advantages.)

d.      Bonus points are only earned AFTER your student has completed his/her course and has provided you with a favorable rating and you have rated your student, as well.  (Your rating of your student will not affect your bonus payout.)  Bonus payouts will stop exactly 45 days following the student’s completion of the Mentor Program and both the mentor and the student have completed the rating forms.  Also note, the rating form must be completed within 7 days of the student completing the Mentor Program.   

e.      There is no exception to these rules.  Even tournaments that have already begun prior to the 45-day period are not eligible if they end after the 45-day period. 

Helping Students After the Mentor Program Is Completed – The student/mentor chat feature stays available for the mentor and the student for an additional 45 days after the Mentor Program is completed.  We suggest you constantly follow up with your students, answering any questions they have and encouraging them to further increase their involvement in the game and community.  We have learned that if a person gets a good understanding of our game and our community in a relatively short period of time and finds a few good contacts in the community, the chance of them staying involved in the game and community for a long time increases exponentially.

Number of Students – Mentors can have up to 3 active students at any given time.  Just make sure you have the available time to give each student the individual attention they need.  Mentors can also manage their time more effectively by setting up group chat programs between a mentor and multiple students.  This becomes a more effective way to get your students through the Mentor Program and help them interact with other players in the community, as well. 

Mentor Ratings – Your student ratings will be monitored by the industry pros who initially authorized your mentor privileges.  If multiple students complain about your unavailability or your lack of cooperation and rate your overall score poorly, players carrying the industry pro badge have the right to cancel your mentor privileges.  As a mentor, we encourage interacting with the industry pros when unique situations arise.  By doing so, you can help make them aware of potential issues or concerns that might occur down the road. 

Industry Pros and Mentors – Industry pros may or may not be mentors.  If an industry pro wants to be a mentor, he must be approved by another industry pro other than himself.  Industry pros are nominated by forum moderators and are approved by game and community administrators only.  Industry pros have the final say in a mentor/student dispute.  If you feel a student has given you a poor rating intentionally and you do not deserve it, the issue must be taken up with an industry pro and not management.

Mentor Time Commitments & Expectations – When you sign up to be a mentor, you are providing tentative days and time slots when you are available to work with students.  No one expects these to be set in stone.  Once you are assigned a student, our suggestion is, first thing, to coordinate a time schedule that works for both of you.  A mentor should be able to successfully help a student by just working with that student for as little as a few hours a week. 

Student Approval Process – When a student either requests you as a mentor or is matched up with you based on your areas of expertise and your time availability, you will be sent a notification.  Mentors have 24 hours to accept or decline the student.  You can accept or decline students from your Mentor Profile page.  If you decline the student, the student will be notified and will be eligible to seek out another mentor.  If you do not reply to the request within 24 hours, the student will be sent a decline notification and also be invited to work with another mentor.   Once a student and mentor have been matched and the program is initiated, neither the mentor nor the student can drop out without receiving a poor rating.   

A Few Tips

·         When working with a mentor, simultaneously review the Get Help section in the community.  By reviewing the Get Help section, you will be way ahead of the curve and might even be prepared with a bunch of questions.

·         When working with a mentor, ask him to give you a general overview of the game first and then work with you on whatever particular areas you are most interested in.

·         Don’t be afraid to ask questions.  The more questions you ask, the better off you are and the more knowledgeable you become.

·         If you’re not sure of an answer that a mentor gives you (they are human), take your specific question to the community.  You never know – you might get a better response.

·         If you’re a student and under the age of 18, never give out your personal information.  And, if a mentor requests it knowing that you are under 18, please let support@horseracegame.com know immediately.  If you’re over 18, though we don’t recommend giving out your private information, that decision is up to you.

·         Review mentor’s profiles in detail before asking them to be your mentor.  We also suggest contacting their current and past students through private messages to get additional feedback.  Reviewing their past student ratings is also a good way to understand their ability and dedication to the program.

·         When looking for mentors, you should not only look at their Mentor Profile page, you should also look at their game profile page.  Are they active in the community?  Have they earned a lot of badges?  Are they successful?  These are all important questions when looking for a mentor.
