The Belmont Stakes
Despite his most dangerous rival being scratched the morning of the race, and being put up against what appeared to be a less-than-stellar field, Big Brown failed to capture the Triple Crown. Da Tara went right to the lead, set some slow mid-race fractions and cruised to an easy win in the Belmont.
The Preakness
There wasn't too much going on last weekend, but the one horse who caught my eye is probably pretty obvious.
The Peter Pan
The Kentucky Derby
Here are some of my selections for Oaks and Derby Day.
Friday:
Race 9
Nistle's Crunch - Ran huge at Keeneland last time out. Ran a big number and could have gone much faster.
Sailor's Cap - Is in top form right now.
Cannonball - Has been running well as of late, and ran a huge race two back.
Race 10
There was absolutely nothing worth writing about last weekend...and unfortunately, there's not too much to write about this weekend. We'll have a lot to talk about next weekend, though, with a bunch of nice races at Churchill on Friday and Saturday.
The Withers
It was a busy weekend on the Triple Crown Trail, but there wasn't much going on the Road to the Breeders' Cup. I didn't see any more than two races with Breeders' Cup implications.
The Shakertown
You can see the race by going to the link below. I couldn't find it on Youtube.
This weekend was a big one for Kentucky Derby prep races, and even though I covered Big Brown's Florida Derby win last weekend, I don't think this weekend's preps were impressive enough to make me recap any of the 3-year-old races. Colonel John was the most impressive winner in my mind, especially since his win came at Santa Anita, this site of this year's Breeders' Cup.
I was so impressed with Curlin yesterday, I had to write about him almost immediately after watching the race, but saved the rest of Saturday's big races for today.
I really hope you were able to tune in to TVG or HRTV and watch the races from Dubai. It is the richest day of racing in the world and, once again, each race was filled with Thoroughbreds of the highest class.
Today, I'll just be writing about the World Cup. I'll do the Florida Derby, Dubai turf races and sprint tomorrow.
