Last time we covered most of the East Coast, Midwest and Dubai contenders. Today, I'll be looking at the California contingent and see if we can find a West Coast Derby winner. I'll also go over some of the other East Coast horses I didn't cover last time.
Pioneer of the Nile
With the 2009 Kentucky Derby just over two short weeks away, let's take a look at some of the major contenders for this year's edition of the Run for the Roses.
Desert Party
The Haskell Invitational is a race that is rich with tradition. Winners of the richest Invitational race in the country include: Majestic Light, Bet Twice, Forty Niner, Point Given, War Emblem, Coronado's Quest, Holy Bull, Skip Away, Serena's Song and Touch Gold.(All of these great horses can be found in our store for your enjoyment )
The Belmont Stakes
Despite his most dangerous rival being scratched the morning of the race, and being put up against what appeared to be a less-than-stellar field, Big Brown failed to capture the Triple Crown. Da Tara went right to the lead, set some slow mid-race fractions and cruised to an easy win in the Belmont.
The Preakness
There wasn't too much going on last weekend, but the one horse who caught my eye is probably pretty obvious.
The Peter Pan
The Kentucky Derby
Here are some of my selections for Oaks and Derby Day.
Friday:
Race 9
Nistle's Crunch - Ran huge at Keeneland last time out. Ran a big number and could have gone much faster.
Sailor's Cap - Is in top form right now.
Cannonball - Has been running well as of late, and ran a huge race two back.
Race 10
There was absolutely nothing worth writing about last weekend...and unfortunately, there's not too much to write about this weekend. We'll have a lot to talk about next weekend, though, with a bunch of nice races at Churchill on Friday and Saturday.
The Withers
It was a busy weekend on the Triple Crown Trail, but there wasn't much going on the Road to the Breeders' Cup. I didn't see any more than two races with Breeders' Cup implications.
The Shakertown
You can see the race by going to the link below. I couldn't find it on Youtube.
