The traditional Alibi Breakfast was held on Thursday May 16, 2013, before the 138th running of the Preakness Stakes. Connections of most of the 9 Preakness entrants were on hand to swap stories about their horses as well as watch the presentation of the annual awards. At 11:30am they announced that Black Onyx had been scratched from the Derby. He came back from his gallop Friday morning with some lameness and x-rays showed he had a non-displaced chip in his ankle. Fear the Kitten will not get in since this happened after the 9am scratch time.

Giant Finish is a late addition to the Derby, knocking Fear the Kitten out as the 21st horse. Trainer Tony Dutrow told Churchill officials that he "has agreed to support my owners' decision to run in the Kentucky Derby." and will ship him in to arrive at Churchill Downs on Thursday morning. He was third in the Spiral Stakes last out.
